Thanks Nanny Jan - Mr. Spock
  • Joan B. Schliewenz - 570-476-4419 client since 2005
From our first experience with Jan, we were happy and confident.  Being as we take frequent cruises out of the country, we need someone who is reliable, dependable, and savvy with our cats. An unexpected surprise was the "daily diary" which detailed how the cats reacted, if there were unexpected issues, or anything else we might want to know. The fact that we have never gotten "cattitude" after the Pet Nanny has taken care of our cats speaks for itself. She is even good with cats who insist on being anti-social!  We are more than pleased and are looking forward to our next vacation, knowing that the felines will be in good hands!  We have great peace of mind!  Thanks Nanny Jan - Ashley, Alley and Mr. Spock

"Dear Jan,

You told me that it was unnecessary to write a letter of recommendation as few people actually check on references. This may be true and I must confess that we did not check on the ones provided by your prior to your first overnight service earlier this year. I will explain why we did not bother to check out your references. From our 1st meeting, I could see how our precious, rescued, black Lab, Ally, took to you. I saw the love in your eyes when she cuddled up to you and tried to sit in your lap. I didn't need any additional proof that you would take good care of our baby. My wife was not home that day and we arranged for another visit when she could meet you. She had the same instantaneous assessment of your sincerity and love of animals.

Two overnight arrangements of 5 days each has proven Ally and us to be correct. MJ and I have recommended your services to several friends and acquaintances. As you know, Ally, was rescued from a puppy mill and had adult heartworm when we adopted her at a year old. We would never consider a kennel after her 1st yr. in that environment. Your care of our friend is exceptional, your treat our house as your own and provide us with a daily log of activiites. Most of all, you provide the love that we cannot give our pet when we aren't here.

We highly recommend your services! Bob & MJ "

“Jan Schaner has been caring for our two dogs and two cats – and our home – for over a year, eleven times since September, 2,003; when we began spending half of the year at our cabin in Marshall’s Creek. Once she cared for our pets for almost two weeks. The dogs adore her and the cats like her better than anyone but us. She is honest, generous, thoughtful, dependable and very, very, nice. I know that we are fortunate to have found her. My only hesitation in recommending her whole-heartedly is the fear that she might be busy when we need her! Please feel free to contact us. WE USUALLY BRING OUR PETS FROM MARYLAND TO PENNSYLVANIA WHEN WE TRAVEL SO SHE CAN CARE FOR THEM. “

"When we moved to the Poconos from New York 3 years ago, we had a big dilemma on our hands: who is going to take care of our dog when we are gone working/commuting for so many hours per day? (we have 4 dogs now, but at the time we had one basset hound). We had no idea what the solution was, but we had faith that we'd come up with something.
One day, I came across Jan's ad in the Pocono Shopper, and I was thrilled! When we actually got to meet in person, I was confident that my problem was solved. As the years with Jan have proven, there is no reason to worry when we have plans that take us away from our dogs. Not only has Jan cared for our dogs during the day, but she's also done numerous overnights. The important part to remember is that Jan doesn't just walk or feed your pet. She gives invaluable attention and love to each one, and it's obvious that it comes from her heart. We've seen how our dogs react when Jan visits, and it's unbelievable! All four dogs rush at her, barking and looking up at her, anticipating the affection they are about to receive!
Thank Goodness Jan has an animal sense of humor, because our pack is quite a handful! But never once has Jan been "put-off" or annoyed by any of our dogs' antics or accidents, or the fact that we kept adding dogs to our family! We trust Jan implicitly with the two most important things in our life: our pets and our home. If that doesn't say it all, then you're not ready for the world's greatest pet sitter! "

  • December 2005 – February 2006   -  Barbara Zemaitis (Ladybug), Blakeslee, PA
  • Alice and Joe Zemaitis (845-726-3611)

Jan, if there is a Guardian Angel of pets, you are one!  My sister-in-law Barbara, who lived alone in PA with her pet beagle Ladybug, was ill with a rare liver disease.  We were her closest relatives but lived in NY, 120 miles away.  As her illness progressed and her PA hospital visits (and our trips back and forth) became more frequent, we tried to convince her to make arrangements for Ladybug in the event we couldn’t get to PA in an emergency or when the time came for the inevitable transplant in NY.

The emergency arrived and Barbara hurriedly checked the phonebook and found you before she called the ambulance.  While it’s not your usual procedure to take a client before an interview, you realized this was an unusual situation.  You opened your heart to Barbara and Ladybug and it worked out so well.  What a relief to all of us!  Then the worst happened.  A couple of weeks later we traveled to PA and returned the next day to NY with Barbara for blood work and to meet with her transplant team.  She was immediately admitted for additional tests and would be in the hospital for a few days, so we thought.  This was when our relationship with you began.

After Barbara was admitted, we returned to PA.  We were unable to take Ladybug back to NY with us and knew arrangements for her had to be made until Barbara returned.  Again, you “saved the day” by taking on this last minute request.  We returned to NY thinking that we’d be back with Barbara in a couple of days.  Unfortunately, Barbara went into a coma and passed away 16 days later.

During those final stress-filled days, we knew you were there for Ladybug.  Every couple of days we drove to PA to visit with her for a while and take care of personal matters.  During one of those visits, we met with you and in that short visit recognized your dedication and affection of animals.  We were so appreciative of your loving attention and devotion to Ladybug, especially since this was also a stressful time for her.  We knew it was difficult in the beginning for her to become accustomed to you….she was very shy, so lonely, and missed her owner.  But she quickly warmed up to you and looked forward to your visits.  We were so impressed with your written details of your visits….what she ate and what activities you did with her.  You also went “above and beyond the call to duty” when you took Ladybug to be groomed and to the vet.

When Barbara passed away, it was “Jan to the rescue again!”  As much as we loved her, taking Ladybug was not an option for us.  We turned to you for help in finding her a new home and you went “over and above” the call for help.  While we were dealing with funeral arrangements in NY and family arriving from Florida, you worked hard to find a new home for Ladybug.  Your numerous phone calls and emails were successful when you found Lori.  And, not only did you find her, but you went the “extra mile” by rearranging your schedule and setting up an interview with Lori to be sure that this would be the right home for Ladybug.  Even your consideration on how the meeting with us, Lori and Ladybug would take place and the process of removing Ladybug from her “old” home was so thoughtful.

Jan, our heartfelt thanks goes out to you for all you have done for us and for Ladybug.  You are most definitely the “World’s Best Pet-sitter!”

Caviar & Simba

Sandy & Stan Prus - Customer 2,005 to present - (570-688-9320)

For years, we’ve been leaving Simba and Caviar home during the day when my husband & I were both at work. We were lucky since we have neighbors we can call on to take them out in case of emergency such as weather or accident delays during the commute home from NYC. We’ve always felt bad calling in for favors but we didn’t think we had any other choices.

About two years ago, our dog loving neighbors started using Jan “The Pet Nanny” for their senior dogs that could no longer hold it for the entire day while they were at work. They strongly recommended Jan to us. After thinking about it for a few months; we decided to give Jan a try because Simba was getting up there in age; it would be unfair for him to hold it all day and Caviar is not getting the exercise he requires on a daily basis.

The thing that really impressed us about Jan on our first meeting was that it was a two way interview. It showed us that she doesn’t just take any job because it’s a job, she is also careful about the pets (and owners) that she takes on. Not only did she take detail notes about our dogs, their (and ours) likes and dislikes, their habits. She also made sure she wrote down all the commands that we use for them while outside in the yard.

We’ve been using Jan for over 2 years (even overnight stays) now; we don’t know why we waited so long to include her into our dogs’ life. Both Simba and Caviar are much happier boys; we’re not as worried about them anymore and we no longer feel like a burden on the neighbors in case we’re a little behind schedule getting home.

We would strong recommend Jan’s Pocono Pet Nanny Service to anyone who really cares for their pets and wants what is best for them while you’re at work or away from home. Not only is Jan a very responsible person when it comes to your pets, she has also became a friend who loves your pets as her own.

  • 2,005 – Lisa & Michael Agens, Reeders, PA (570-619-4179)

“Long before we "needed" someone to let our dogs out, I saw an ad in the Pocono Record for The Pet Nanny. I clipped it out and stuck it with our phone books, figuring someday we might need it since we rescue "senior" dogs and all of ours were 10 years+. Well, the time came when our oldest of 3 (15 years old with a failing liver) could no longer go our entire workday with out making an accident in the house. I dug out that ad and called.

Jan made an evening appointment with me and took the time to learn about our 3 senior rescue dogs, their quirks and issues, their likes and dislikes. She cared about them from the first moment. What really "did it" for me was she asked where our water shut-off valve was and our breaker box! I never thought that was important for someone hired to let our dogs out, but I now understand why. She is our eyes and ears for the time she is in our house. Our dogs` safety, security and comfort are our #1 priority and, while she is here, it is her #1 priority, too.

Even though 2 of our dogs have since passed on, we keep Jan as our Nanny because it gives us the reassurance that our Sakee has a friendly face mid-day. Sakee gets a mid-day loving and the chance to stretch her legs outside. Jan is there for us, too, in case we get held up at work or are in a bind. She's only a phone call away. From now on, no matter what their ages or health status, our future dogs will have a Pet Nanny to give them the mid-day love they deserve.
I highly recommend Jan and her services to anyone who loves their pets. She is now an indispensable part of our family."

  • 2,006 - Ann Harris, Albrightsville, PA (770-313-3553)"When I first moved to the Poconos from Atlanta, my first concern was not how I might get used to ice and snow, or making sure I purchased the right house. My primary concern was that I travel quite a bit, and was desperate to find someone who would come to my home daily and take care of my two Siamese cats. Like most pet owners, my "babies" are my life, and I was mortified that I was not going to be able to secure a pet sitter that would care for my cats they way I would.

I was blessed to find Jan Schaner, the Pet Nanny. When Jan came to my house, she took the time to find out all about my cats...about their personalities, what their likes and dislikes were, how they were fed/watered, what their health history was, etc. She was so thorough, that I began to relax a bit as I continued to speak with her. I felt as if she truly knew how important my kitties were to me, and it was obvious that she had a knack for caring for animals.

Jan came to my home very prepared and knowledgeable, and I was thankful for being able to meet with her. My confidence and comfort levels have only grown in the past months as I have learned to completely depend on Jan and her staff. They are always there, always confirm that they have seen the babies, and give me daily anecdotes regarding the activity of my cats. Just what a protective pet mother needs to hear! I highly recommend Jan Schaner, the Pet Nanny, and will gladly serve as a verbal reference for her and her team. "
